ATN Router in Ethiopia

> Description du projet

Egis Avia provides a router for aeronautical telecommunications in Ethiopia

As the existing communications systems to exchange operational information between air traffic stakeholders have become obsolete, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has issued recommendations to move from old Aeronautical fixed telecommunication network (AFTN) technologies to the new Aeronautical message handling system protocol (AMHS).

Through extensive research work and studies on aeronautical communications for air-ground and ground-ground applications, Egis Avia has long been contributing to this issue by offering a wide range of specific products addressing these needs. Egis Avia specially developed a strong expertise in operational ATN routers and AFTN/AMHS gateways to connect the existing services to new infrastructures and ensure seamless transition between networks.

In compliance with international standards, the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority decided to implement a new ATN/AMHS system offering more efficient services and new operational capacity to the country’s air navigation service provider.

> Description des services fournis

In the framework of this project, Egis Avia’s ProATN router and ATN Lower Layers End System software are integrated into the AMHS solution of the American Company RADIOCOM, providing the solution with ATN communication facilities. Egis Avia’s services also include the commissioning and set-up of the system as well as training of operators and maintenance staff.

Expediting the transition from AFTN to AMHS for end users and offering a better connectivity with neighbouring countries’ air traffic control, the installation of this new technology is fully in line with the strategy to continuously improve air transport safety.
